Queensland public hospitals stopped new puberty blockers and hormones of the opposite sex for under-18s.

On 28 October 2025 the Health Minister issued ministerial direction QH-MD-002 under the Hospital and Health Boards Act. New public patients under 18 with gender dysphoria are not to start puberty blockers (Stage 1) or sex hormones (Stage 2). Current patients may continue. Other medical uses of those medicines are carved out. Private care is outside this direction. Australia’s federal card remains the NHMRC guideline review.
