Alberta restricts puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones for minors, and prohibits surgery on minors. Surgery has been in force since December 2024. Hormone rules took effect 7 January 2026, with stated exceptions in Ministerial Order 31/2025.

Alberta’s Education Amendment Act, 2024 requires parental notification — and, under 16, parental consent — before staff use a preferred name or pronouns tied to gender identity. That is a school restriction.
