NHS England is building a clinical pathway for adults who have already had a medical gender transition and later want to detransition. This is aftercare planning for adults. It is not a youth medical ban.
In April 2025, NHS England asked people with lived experience to describe what help they could and could not get. It says many people who detransition still have physical and mental-health needs and struggle to find the right care. There are no UK professional guidelines yet for that work.
It then ran a clinician call for evidence from 30 October to 28 December 2025. The aim is to shape a future service specification. The Cass Review had flagged people seeking to detransition with no clear route to care, and asked the NHS to make suitable provision. NHS England’s August 2024 Cass implementation plan included that work.
