On September 4, 2026, the U.S. Department of Justice announced an agreement with Mount Sinai Health System resolving an investigation into potential federal-law violations arising from sex-rejecting procedures on children.
Under the agreement, Mount Sinai will cease providing these interventions to minors, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures. Mount Sinai will also pay a monetary penalty and dedicate $2 million to free medical care for individuals suffering harmful consequences of sex-rejecting procedures received as children.
DOJ states this follows similar agreements with Texas Children's Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Connecticut Children's Hospital. The claims resolved are allegations only; there has been no determination of liability; Mount Sinai has denied all allegations.
